You probably know the images of beaches full of plastic waste. Much of this waste is due to bottled water. As humans, we like to assume that a large part of these plastic bottles are recycled by recycling companies. But nothing is less true. Bottled water is one of the biggest pollutants on the planet.
Extra water is needed just to produce bottled water. So it’s not just about the water that can be found in the bottle. The production of a 1 liter water bottle takes 3 to 6 liters of water. Tap water is always the most environmentally friendly choice.
Plastic bottles include the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA). In small amounts, this can end up in your drinking water when you drink a bottle of water. Too much BPA is harmful to the liver, kidneys, fertility and can affect your hormone system. Under normal circumstances, only small amounts will be in the water, which are not harmful. But at higher temperatures, for example when you keep your bottle in the sun, the release of BPA in the water can increase. It is better to drink (filtered) tap water and keep it in a glass or stainless steel (stainless steel) bottle. These materials hardly emit harmful substances.
There are certain standards for BPA within the EU. These must not be exceeded. According to these standards, we consume a “safe” amount of BPA. Of course you want your water to be completely free of BPA. Filtered tap water ensures that you get no BPA.
Bottled water and all other bottled drinks are bad for the environment. Would you like to contribute to the environment? Then it’s better to drink tap water. Preferably filtered with ZeroWater, because your body prefers pure water to optimally hydrate the cells. Would you prefer to buy bottled water? Then look for a returnable bottle instead of a disposable bottle. In that way you save the environment. Or reuse your bottle by refilling it with (filtered) tap water. Make sure you clean the bottle regularly with warm water and a little washing-up liquid, preferably daily. This slows down bacterial growth. A water bottle can contain millions of bacteria if you don’t clean it properly on a regular basis.
Dutch tap water is one of the best in the world. Yet there is also a lot of pollution in it. Think of dissolved solids such as lead, chromium, magnesium, iron and calcium. However, you can save yourself a lot of money by drinking tap water. Using bottled water you are about 150 to 500 times more expensive than when you drink water from the tap. Tap water is therefore better for your wallet. You do want your tap water to be as pure as possible and free of any harmful substances for your health. You can do this by filtering the tap water using ZeroWater. In this way you drink tap water at its purest!
